Mother of lady wants answers |
Savvyinferno is learning more about the woman killed in a weekend police shooting in Virginia Beach.
Twenty-eight-year-old India Kager died at the scene. She was in the car with her boyfriend Angelo Perry.
“There is no justification,” Kager’s mother Gina Best said. “There will be no justification for this.”
The last time Best heard from her daughter was Friday night. Kager was driving Perry from her home in Maryland to Hampton Roads.
“My understanding is that they were in a relationship and that he was here visiting and that they returned back to Virginia Beach,” Best added.
Sunday morning, Best got a call about a police shooting. She was told Kager had been killed.
“I have been in a whirlwind of emotions,” Best said. “I’m feeling grief, confusion, anger, frustration and remorse over a beautiful innocent life that has been snuffed out.”
Police say they had been tailing Kager and Perry around for almost 30 minutes before they pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot. Officers were after Perry. They are calling him a person of interest in a murder investigation.
“As a mother I wanted to know more about Angelo,” Best said. “India was very meek and some ways she was very gullible. She had no idea if that it is the truth.”
Best says Kager grew up in a good family, was a kind-hearted person and an even better mother.
“We are not speaking of a young girl who would go out and look for trouble,” Best added. “She never incited that.”
Kager served in the Navy and was currently working as a mail carrier.
“One thing I do know is that she didn’t have to die,” Best said.
Police say it is unfortunate that Kager was killed and it was unavoidable.
“India Kager was sitting directly next to Mr. Perry as the officers were firing,” Virginia Beach Police Chief Jim Cervera said. “It was incidental. It was accidental. It was not intended, but they were right on top of each other as he was firing his weapon at the officers.”
“We are going to get the truth and we want the truth,” Best said.
Kager had two children. Police say her 4-month-old was in the backseat of the car and was not injured. She also has a 4-year-old boy.
